Testing identifies bones as those of man missing since 2004

OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) - Police in Alabama say the remains of a man found last year behind a trailer park are those of a man missing since 2004.

The Opelika-Auburn News reports that Opelika police said in a news release Monday that the results of testing identified the bones as those of Andrew James Barnett Jr. Barnett was 34 when he was reported missing on June 17, 2004.

Lee County Coroner Bill Harris had announced the discovery of the remains behind Bennett's Trailer Park in September 2016, saying a child looking for his dog found the remains along a creek bank in a wooded area. Bennett was a resident of the trailer park.

No cause of death has been announced and police are soliciting tips.
