MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Monday night the YMCA of Greater Montgomery honored those who serve the youth in the Capital City Monday night.

The YMCA held its 66th Annual Man of the Year Banquet and this year's recipient was Gen. Paul Hankins.

Hankins is a retiree of the U.S. Air Force and has served as the chair of the Emory Folmar YMCA Soccer Complex for nearly four years.

"This award is unique because the nominees are nominated by young people, and they are interviewed by young people, and presented to a panel of teenagers through our YMCA and those teenagers are the ones that decide who is the man of the year," said Sam Adams, vice president of Youth Development at the YMCA of Greater Montgomery.

The banquet may be called the "Man of the Year" but both men and women represented the dozen nominees for this year's award. Students paid tribute to each nominee at the banquet Monday night.
