MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Multiple firefighters responded to a house fire early Thursday morning but were unable to save the two-story residence. It's been deemed a "total loss".

Crews responded to the fire in the area of Marshall and Louis streets, located not far from Sidney Lanier High School, sometime before 5 a.m.

Everyone in the residence was able to get out before first responders arrived.

Firefighters found heavy fire in the rear of the home that had already extended into the attic by the time they arrived. Efforts to put out the blaze were hampered by water pressure issues.

As of 7 a.m., most crews had been released from the scene, though some remained to fight small pockets of fire burning from collapsed roofing.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze is in the earliest stages and no determination has been made.
