MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - There's been a lot of effort into renovating the historic Kress Building in Downtown Montgomery, including about three years of work and about $20 million in investments.
At Mayor Todd Strange's briefing Thursday, he announced the building will officially open to the public on Friday, when the company "Lightning Line" will host its Holiday Pop Up Market.
"This is a pivotal moment in our community as we celebrate the revival of one of the most historic buildings on what is arguably the most historic street in America," Mayor Todd Strange said. "But what's most exciting is the potential for continued growth – growth in residential, retail and Montgomery's entrepreneurial spirit – thanks to the dedicated efforts of the Bullers and MontgomeryBUILDS. To do something of this stature takes tenacity, courage and vision."
Over 40 local vendors, including artisans and performers, will be inside, selling holiday goods. The shops will be open Friday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
