MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Alabama’s Senate-elect Doug Jones says his opponent Roy Moore needs to concede and, “it’s time to move on,”

During an interview Thursday on NBC’s TODAY Show with Savannah Guthrie, Jones said he understands Moore’s frustrations over their extremely close race but he also feels that Moore needs to accept the results and help move the state forward.

“It’s time to move on. Every race is tough, it’s bitter sometimes. I think this one was one that the people of Alabama have spoken a little bit and decided to heal,” Jones said. Jones later added, “I think he’d do well if he’d just go ahead, let’s get this behind us so the people of Alabama can get someone in there and start working for them,”

Guthrie also asked if Jones thought the people of Alabama voted for him or against Roy Moore. Jones responded by saying he thought it was a bit of both his message and Moore’s record and allegations.

“That’s okay, I’m fine with that because if people of this state reject that kind of politics, I think that is a very good thing,” Jones said.

Moore has yet to concede to Jones. On Wednesday, he released a video statement thanking his supports and saying, “Together we must stand against those who would take from us our country,”
