AUTAUGA CO., AL (WSFA) -

An Autauga County employee has been arrested on charges of theft and use of his official position for personal gain, according to court documents.

William McCollum, the supervisor of the Autauga County Engineering Department Road Crew, is accused of committing the crimes between January and September.

McCollum is said to have taken culvert pipe from the department's stock and delivered it to several locations. On some occasions, he's said to have instructed at least two of his crew members to load, transport, and install the pipes.

McCollum is said to have collected and kept payment from at least three citizens for the pipe and services even though he was not authorized to take any payments for any property or services rendered by the department.

The stolen property and services were valued at just under $3,000, the documents stated.

McCollum's bond was set at $20,000.
