DOTHAN, AL (WSFA) - Dothan City School System is one step closer to having a new superintendent. The school board voted 5-2 at Monday night's meeting to offer Dr. Phyllis Edwards the superintendent position.
Edwards previously worked as a superintendent of the Decatur School System on the outskirts of Atlanta for at least 12 years. She also worked with Flagler County Schools in Florida for over 20 years, some of which was spent serving as assistant superintendent.
School board Chairman Mike Schmitz says the next step will be the board getting together to discuss and vote on a contract for Edwards. A timeline for the vote has not been set.
Schmitz said the goal is to have a meet and greet with the new superintendent in January.
