Greenville Welcomes Back The Watermelon Jubilee

The second weekend in August is a significant one in Greenville. After a year off, one of the best known festivals is making a come back.

At the Watermelon Jubilee there is food, fun, crafts and a bunch of homegrown watermelon. Hubert Little has attended all but one of the Jubilee's. He says, "It is something like a county fair. Everyone looked forward to it and wanted to be a part of it."

Perhaps the most popular event at the Watermelon Jubilee is the seed spitting contest. Amanda Phillips is organizing the event this year. "Everyone gets three seeds and you spit on a course and to the Greenville YMCA which now runs the event.

The gates open on Saturday, August 13th and 14th, at 8:00am and close at 5:00pm. Admission is 3 dollars for adults and it is one dollar for students.
