Ticket prices continue to soar for National Championship in Atlanta

MOBILE COUNTY, AL (WALA) -

Tickets for the College Football National Championship are in high demand. Alabama and Georgia fans are going to have to shell out the big bucks if they want to go.

Officials with the College Football Playoff say it didn’t take long for tickets to completely sell out. The cheapest resale tickets we found are around $2,000+.

“I’ve never seen tickets this high, with the exception of the Auburn game in 2010,” said Bob Bender with Springdale Travel in Mobile, an agency that has been selling National Championship travel packages for years.

"We have $2,900 for upper end zone, and $3,954 for lower end zone,“ said Bender. Our hotel packages at the Doubletree in Buckhead are $695 per person."

On StubHub around 4 P.M., the lowest priced tickets in the nosebleeds were between $2,000 and $2,500, with premium seats up to $25,000.

We found similar prices on Ticketmaster.

Bender says one of the reasons for these high prices is that Georgia is a virtual home team. Hundreds of thousands of bulldog fans live in Atlanta, and the university in Athens is only about 70 miles away from Mercedes Benz Stadium.

"I think there's going to be an excessive amount of demand from Georgia fans that will overtake the stadium,” said Bender. "I think a lot of Alabama ticket holders are probably going to be selling tickets to Georgia fans. A seat on the 50 yard line might run up to $7,000 or $8,000, so it's going to be very competitive."

For the first time, you can only get into the stadium this year if your ticket is on a mobile device. We're told if someone sells you a hard copy, it will not be accepted.

There are also lots of ticketing scams out there we want to make sure you're aware of. The Better Business Bureau (BBB) released these tips for last year’s National Champion game on how to avoid scams.
