American Jews pray at UN as Gaza withdrawal begins

NEW YORK (AP)_Many American Jews are praying for their friends who are being forced to leave their homes in Gaza.

Some are more sad than angry. A man who organized a service in front of the United Nations yesterday says the withdrawal is a day to "cry out to God rather than scream protest slogans."

A woman at the service carried a sign that read "Don't make a legal terrorist state," a reference to the Palestinian takeover of Gaza and four West Bank settlements.

Israel has closed the Gaza Strip to Israeli civilians and troops are now handing out eviction notices but they're meeting with some settler resistance.
