COPY-Worker dies of heat-related illness at rock quarry

AUBURN, Ala. Lee County Coroner Bill Harris says a heat-related illness is blamed in the death of a Georgia man who collapsed at a rock quarry near Auburn.

32-year-old Stephen Eric Horne of Gray, Georgia, told co-workers yesterday morning that he wasn't feeling well after working all night. He was found unconscious a short time later.

Harris said Horne's core body temperature was 105-degrees and he was taken to East Alabama Medical Center where he went into cardiac arrest and died.

The Occupational Health and Safety Administration is investigating the death.

Horne was employed by Industrial Supply Solutions of Macon, Georgia. The company splices conveyer belts at the quarry on Lee County Road 159.
