ALEXANDRIA, LA (WSFA) - Champions once more. That's the title the Alabama State Hornets Women's Golf team will hold for the fifth time in six years after taking the Southwestern Athletic Conference Championship.

The Hornets won the championship by 39 strokes, led by Chanelle Avaricio, who won the individual title for the fourth straight year. ASU finished with a 50-over 626 on day two to finish ahead of 2017 champion Texas Southern.

Avaricio finished one shot ahead of teammate Nia Station for the individual crown. Avaricio shot a six-over 150 while Station shot a seven-over 151. Madison DeRousse, teammate of both Avaricio and Staion, finished fourth and Jade McAlister finished seventh.

The trio of Avaricio, Station and DeRousse were named First All-Conference, with Station also earning Freshman of the Year. McAlister and Shania Jones were named Second Team All-Conference.

Winning the SWAC also means an automatic bid into the NCAA field. The Hornets now await until the day of April 25 at 5:30 p.m., to find out their destination.
