MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - More details are being released regarding a police incident that caused multiple lane closures on Interstate 65 southbound at the Alabama River Bridge Wednesday morning.
The Elmore County Sheriff's Office confirms the traffic incident was the end result of a high-speed chase that started with an alarm call at a Holtville residence around 10:10 a.m.Units responded to the house on Whatley Drive where they found the front door kicked in.
Twenty minutes later, dispatch was alerted about two suspicious subjects at a house off First Place in Elmore. Responding deputies were relayed information about the suspects' vehicle and quickly found it.
Deputies attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle fled, eventually getting onto I-65 where the chase ended at the Clay Street exit coming into Montgomery.
The sheriff's office says it has taken one suspect into custody, 17-year-old Kentarius Christopher Stephens, of Montgomery. Law enforcement continues the search for a second suspect, identified as Tyler Carter, also 17 of Montgomery.
Stephens is being held at the Elmore County Jail with charges of first-degree burglary and attempted burglary pending. When caught, Carter is expected to face the same charges. Other charges are pending against both.
