ALEXANDRIA, LA (WSFA) - The streak stops at 5 for the Alabama State Hornets Men's Golf team. That's how many consecutive Southwestern Athletic Conference Championships they'd won leading into play Wednesday. The Hornets fell short of their goal as Prairie View A&M dethroned the Hornets for the first time since 2011.

Prairie View A&M entered day three of the contest and shot a 27-over-891 in the end. Alabama State finished second with a 58-over 922.

Individually for the Hornets, Alexandre Belanger finished in fourth, shooting a 76 in the final round en route to a 12-over 228 overall score. Teammates Quincy Smith and Noel Sims tied for eighth at 15-over 231 and Mbongeni Maphosa finished with a 16-over 232 to round out the Hornets in the top 10 leaderboard.

The win by Prairie View A&M also marks the first time since 1989 that a team other than Alabama State or Jackson State has won the conference championship.
