Teacher by day, stunt double at night

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Hannah Pittman always knew she wanted to be a teacher. She loves her job at Redland Elementary School in Wetumpka.

"I teach 6th grade," said Pittman. "So they're not like, 'tie my shoe or wipe my nose', you can have a conversation and develop a good relationship at this age,"

When she's not educating young minds, she has another passion.

"I've been doing karate all my life," Pittman said.

Pittman's put in a lot of time at her uncle's studio US Yoshukai Karate in Montgomery.

Hannah is now a first-degree black belt. Little did she know all that martial arts training would open the door for a pretty cool opportunity. She has another uncle who's a stunt coordinator for movies and shows, and he needed some help.

"He said, 'I have this one girl that I'm having trouble finding a stunt double for', then he looked at me and said, 'you know how to point spar and you know karate. You'd be perfect, same size, skin color, everything,'"

So Hannah left the classroom and headed for the set of the YouTube Red show Cobra Kai, it picks up the Karate Kid story more than 30 years later. She was a stunt double for one of the Cobra Kai fighters.

Here's one of the trailers for the show:

"I've seen the movie Karate Kid. I think it came out before I was born but I've seen all the Karate Kid movies," Pittman said.

Now all her students and parents know she's kinda famous. Talk about some street cred as a teacher, a black belt, a stunt double on a new show, and that may be just the beginning.

"I hope they get a season two because that means my uncle gets to work on it again. He already said if they bring my character back, he's going to need me. Teacher by day, stunt double by night,"

If nothing else, all the kids will know, don't mess with Miss Pittman!

Next week, there will be a special screening of the original Karate Kid movie, followed by the first two 30-minute episodes of the new show Cobra Kai. It'll be at the AMC Theater on Vaughn Road, April 25 at 7 p.m. The Cobra Kai show will debut on YouTube Red on May 2nd. Season one has ten episodes.
