Governor Riley is still not saying if he will seek another term in the governor's office. Riley said that he doesn't want to talk about politics while dealing with the emergency caused by last week's Hurricane Katrina.
Riley had originally planned to host a Labor Day barbecue at the Governor's Mansion today. Some supporters had expected the governor to use the occasion to announce if he plans to seek re-election next year. The barbecue was canceled after Katrina ripped into the Gulf Coast. Instead of cooking hamburgers at the mansion, Riley spent part of Labor Day talking with evacuees who were being served lunch at a YMCA youth sports facility in Montgomery.
Riley declined when asked if he wanted to go ahead and announce his political intentions. He says because of Katrina this is not a time to talk about politics.
