TROY, AL (WSFA) - Troy freshman pitcher Annie Willis always has a plan.
"I'm very big on making a plan and sticking to it," said Willis.
But she never planned for how much success she's had during her first year of collegiate softball.
The Huntsville native is filling up the stat sheet in 2018 for the Trojans.
"I just have trusted everybody that has helped me so far and I've just listened to Coach Jay, and I've just trusted myself, and I've gotten to the point where I am," said Willis.
Willis said she's not concerned with stats, in fact she hasn't even looked at hers during her time here at Troy.
However, I have. During her freshman year, Willis has struck out 111 batters while holding opponents to just a .220 batting average. Her ERA is 2.31 and she's done all of this while taking 15 credit hours.
"Honestly, I wouldn't have expected it,"'said Willis. "I had a little bump in the road in the fall, but getting to here, it's just been crazy honestly."
"She's just an absolute dream to work with," said Troy pitching coach Jaycee Affeldt. "You tell her one thing and she can make an adjustment just like that. It's pretty rare to see from a freshman for sure."
Willis has been thrown some curve balls along the way while adjusting to division one softball, but if you watch her on the mound, she can throw them right back.
