MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Fate would shine differently for Pike Lib in this year's AISA 3A title series against Glenwood. Pike Lib was out for revenge after Glenwood downed the Patriots in the championship series last year.
After winning Game 1 3-0, Game 2 was a no doubter. Tied at one, in the bottom of the second, Pike Lib's Cody Hollis would hit a sac fly to left field to score Max Copeland, giving the Patriots a slim one-run lead.
A squeeze play would score Clay Barron from third in the third to give Pike Lib a 3-1 lead before the Patriots would add another run ahead of the frame's end. The Patriots plated two more in the fifth and were then up by five runs at that point. Solid pitching held Glenwood to that one run as Pike Lib would go on to easily handle Glenwood 11-1, claiming this year's AISA 3A title.
"Our guys were ready to go. Our guys have worked toward this all year long. From the first pitch of the season, we envisioned this same match up coming back again this year and our kids have worked their tails off all year long to make sure we didn't end up with the same result," said Pike Lib head coach Allen Ponder.
"It's a great feeling. We've been working for this all year with all my brothers. We finally got us one. It's a great feeling.," said senior Reed Jinright.
"Best feeling ever. Coach Ponder told us all year that if we worked hard enough we would get here. Last year was the worst feeling ever. We worked hard in the fall and winter. It was just awesome. We deserve it," said Pike Lib junior Trevor Barron.
Barron was also named the MVP.
