TROY, AL (WSFA) - The trio of Matt Sanders, Drew Fredric, and Joey Denison has given opposing pitchers fits.
"Us three just work really well together up at the front," said Denison. "We all have different skill sets."
The trio have batted 1-2-3 for the Trojans the last month and a half, and have set the tone for the offense.
The Trojans offensive success stems from these three players each bringing something different at the top of the lineup.
It starts with Sanders' ability to get on base as he's tops on the team with a .457 on base percentage.
Fredric's speed on the diamond has made him a headache for opposing catchers as he's top 20 in the nation with 24 stolen bases.
Once Sanders and Frederic are in scoring position, Denison, who is top 15 in the nation in RBI, steps up and finishes the job.
"Both of them get on base all the time," said Denison. "They're always on base. The RBI is really a more of a team stat."
Sanders, who is in the leadoff spot, is also tops in the entire nation in runs scored, with a lot of them being a product of the two guys right behind him.
"I wouldn't score any runs if they wouldn't drive me in," said Sanders. "I just have to get on base and they more times than not drive me in."
"I just have one job to do and that's to get him over, or get them in if he's already over," said Frederic. "With him stealing the bags now, it makes it a lot easier for me."
Since the Trojans adjusted the lineup and moved Fredric into the number two spot, Troy is 16-8 and averaging around 8 runs per game.
