Trinity girls' soccer scores first state title in sudden-death shootout

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Trinity girls' soccer team claimed its first state championship in thrilling fashion Friday night. The Wildcats took down Guntersville 4-3 in the sudden death shootout to claim the Class4A/5A State Championship match 2-1.

Trinity tied the contest at 1-all with 2:29 remaining in regulation. They then held their own through two overtime periods before claiming the shootout. It was the foot of Margaret Healey Mathison that tied the game in the 80th minute via penalty.

Guntersville's Aubri Hanner scored the match's first goal at 15:25 in the first half.

In the sudden death shootout, Katherine Warren, Cate Stewart, Hazen Finley and Mary Davis netted goals after the Wildcats missed their first attempt. Guntersville missed on two shots, the difference in the contest.
