ALEXANDER CITY, AL (WSFA) -

The renovation of Hamp Lyon Stadium in Alex City is nearly done, with 80 percent of it finished.

The stadium still needs new bleachers, lights and concession stands. So far, the field has been resodded, electrical wiring has been rerouted and an irrigation system has been installed.

Officials from Alex City, Tallapoosa County and the Alex City school district are contributing funds and private donations to help with the project, which will cost around $600,000 when it's all said and done. Hamp Lyon Stadium fell into disrepair when the Sportsplex was built about 14 years ago. The local Kiwanis Club is providing a new scoreboard.

Officials hope to have the stadium ready for local sports by this fall.
