Prank leaves thousands in damages at Alabama school

CLAY, Ala. (AP) - A senior prank left thousands of dollars worth of damage at a high school near Birmingham, and officials say more than 20 students suspected in the act are now banned from participating in graduation.

WBMA-TV reports that Clay-Chalkville High School was hit with eggs, spray paint and graffiti on Sunday night. Some graphics decorating the campus also were destroyed.

Jefferson County's school system estimates the cost to clean up and repair the damage at between $5,000 and $10,000, and students identified on security video will be required to pay restitution.

A school official says students suspected in the vandalism won't be allowed to walk at the graduation ceremony, but they will receive their diplomas.
