MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

Montgomery police have arrested a man in connection with the Monday night death of a Montgomery man.

Damien Phifer, 22, of Wetumpka was charged with the murder in the shooting death of 28-year-old Jamichael Stokes.

According to the Montgomery Police Department, the shooting was the 2800 block of Creative Street. MPD says the shooting stemmed from a dispute between Stokes, Phifer and an acquaintance. Phifer was arrested after he was released from the hospital after being treated for a minor gunshot wound.

According to police, officers were flagged down at the intersection of Chisholm Street and Lower Wetumpka Road. A passerby saw a victim, later identified as Stokes, in distress and attempted to take him to the hospital. However, Stokes was pronounced dead at the scene.

Phifer has been placed in the Montgomery County Detention Facility under a $150,000 bond.
