PRATTVILLE, AL (WSFA) - Three suspects who were the focus of a CrimeStoppers segment for stealing a $1000 cell phone from the T-Mobile store in Prattville have been linked to a string of thefts out of Troy.
Troy police have five suspects in custody after thefts were committed up and down U.S. Highway 231. Cases involve thefts of food and drinks from a convenience store as well as thefts of four iPhones in two separate incidents.
Friday, the Prattville Police Department confirmed with CrimeStoppers that its team and Troy police reviewed photos from both cases and determined they are connected.
James Lewis Banks, 21, from Montgomery was arrested by Troy police on Tuesday. He's charged with theft of property in the second and third degrees. Four juveniles, also from Montgomery, are each charged with the same offenses in Troy.
Charges for three of the suspects are expected in Prattville after the T-Mobile theft. Police say one suspect cut the security cord to an iPhone X and stole it.
There was a video that showed the three suspects fleeing in a black Dodge Charger, the same type of car used in the Troy crimes.
Troy police impounded the vehicle and recovered some of the stolen property, as well as wire cutters.
Banks was being held at the Pike County Jail on bonds totaling $4,000. The juveniles were taken to the Pike County Juvenile Probation where they were awaiting an appearance before a judge.
