Tropical low will bring potential for tons of Memorial Day weekend rain

MOBILE, AL (WALA) -

Good morning! We've got another risk of showers and storms today due to the moist air mass we're under.

Coverage of rain will be around 60 percent, and these things will continue to form in random spots and produce the risk of heavy rain and lightning. Most of these storms will die off once the sun begins to set but this time of year you have to keep that umbrella close by.

Highs Thursday afternoon will be around 90 degrees with lows dropping down to a muggy 70 degrees.

A tropical low is coming our way for the Memorial Day weekend. We'll see the low entering the Gulf on Saturday and tracking North.

It looks to move into New Orleans on Monday and since we'll be on the east side, we'd see the potential for tons of rain.

In fact, latest estimates put the totals anywhere between 6 and 12 inches of rain through Tuesday of next week.

As far as strength of the storm, the odds are getting a little better that this could become a weak tropical storm. It would get the name Alberto if it does.

The main threats for us would still be flooding, dangerous surf and rip currents. We'll be watching very closely.
