MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Each Summer, we have a college student majoring in Meteorology join us for a Summer Weather Internship. These internship opportunities offer hands-on experience and instruction in the always-changing field of media meteorology. This year's intern is Zack Webster; he introduces himself below...you'll be reading Zack's forecast information and seeing more of him through the Summer!
Hey guys! My name is Zack Webster, and I am the new weather intern here at WSFA! I grew up in Tallassee but we moved to Notasulga around a year and a half ago. I spend most of the year at the University of South Alabama in Mobile, where I will be finishing up my final two semesters in broadcast meteorology between this fall and next spring.
I knew pretty early that I wanted to do at least something in weather as my career when I grew up. I've experienced a pretty wide variety of weather events through my life, beginning with sleeping through Hurricane Opal when I was the young, young age of six months old. The tornado outbreak on April 27, 2011 is the weather day that I will remember the most, and it really solidified my thought that I wanted to make a career out of weather.
Outside of that, I played soccer and ran track and cross country in high school. Fortunately I've been able to keep up with playing soccer every now and then when intramural soccer season comes around down at USA.
WSFA was the one place I wanted to intern at when the time came to do so. I'm very thankful to intern in an area that I grew up in, and I know I have a great group of meteorologists here at the station that will teach me everything they can about this career!
