MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - The Montgomery Biscuits will be well represented at June's Southern League All-Star Game. Four Biscuits players will represent the butter and blue June 19 at Regions Field in Birmingham.
Two position players and two pitchers were selected from Montgomery's club. Designated hitter Brandon Lowe, infielder Nick Solak, and pitchers Zach Lee and Genesis Cabrera will be on the North Division team.
Lowe has been impressive his first full season at the Double-A level. He's hit for a .286 avg, clobbering 8 home runs and knocking in 41 RBIs. Lowe is also second on the team in hits, just behind Solak with 55. His 41 RBIs lead the league and his 17 doubles are tied for first.
Solak is enjoying an impressive year at the plate. He's eighth in the Southern League in average, hitting .305 at the dish. He's fourth in the league with 60 hits, which is also tops for the team. In the field, he's yet to commit an error at second base.
Zach Lee has been lights out for the Biscuits all season. He's 6-1 with a 2.53 ERA in 10 starts. The right-handed pitcher's struck out 43 batters in 57 innings. He's one of the top pitchers in the Southern League as his wins rank tied for second.
Teammate Genesis Cabrera is just behind Lee in wins for both the team and league. Cabrera is tied for third in the league with 5 wins, posts a 3.24 ERA and has also struck out 74 opposing hitters, good enough for the second spot. Cabrera comes off of a Monday night start where he dominated on the mound. The lefty struck out a career-best 12 in a 3-0 win over the Mississippi Braves.
Montgomery and Tennessee tied with four players each on the North Division All-Star team. The Chattanooga Lookouts lead all North Division teams with seven selections.
