EUFAULA, AL (WSFA) - Fire up those engines because dragboat racing has made its way over to Lake Eufaula.
Southern Outlaw Dragboat Association, or S.O.D.A., is teaming up with the Eufaula Barbour Chamber of Commerce to put on the Bluff City Blast on Saturday at Lake Eufaula.
More than 40 racers from across the Southeast will compete in the double-elimination tournament consisting of seven separate classifications.
You'll have to keep your eyes on the action or else you'll miss some of the boats on the 800-foot course as some will reach speeds well over 100 miles per hour.
It's been a while since boat racing has happened on Lake Eufaula and it seems that this can provide a win-win for the city and the Dragboat Association.
"The race director already told me that one of his boat racers has taken 10 rooms," said Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Sallie Garrison. "There's going to be a great economic impact with overnight stay and hopefully people are going to come in through the day."
"I've always loved the lake," said S.O.D.A. President Jay Jackson. "It's basically what I call my hometown lake. I've been pursuing to have a race up here for a few years now and we finally made it happen."
The races will begin at Old Creek Town Park in Eufaula beginning at 11 a.m.
