Lee County Humane Society joins in on 'Just One Day' effort

LEE COUNTY, AL (WSFA) - On Monday the Lee County Humane Society will join with shelters nationwide to try to put an end to the killing of healthy adoptable animals, even if its for "Just One Day."

The goal is to empty the shelters in a good way. All animals in the shelter will available for adoption at a very low rate.

Shelter officials say that over 10,000 animals are euthanized per day across the county due to a lack of space, and efforts like "Just One Day" make a big difference.

"It is a movement that encourages all animal shelters nationwide to go one day without euthanizing any animals that could potentially be adopted out. So as part of Just One Day to encourage adoption instead of having to euthanize animals for space, we will open an all adoptable pets in the building will have an $11 adoption fee," said LCHS Outreach and Development Coordinator Mary Wynn Kling.

Any pet that has not been spayed or neutered will require a refundable $50 spay or neuter deposit.
