FLORENCE, AL (WAFF) -

Florence City Schools and Northwest Shoals Community College have partnered to offer Florence High School students the early college program.

The state funded program will offer qualified students at Florence High School three primary career paths in general liberal arts, medical assisting technology, and welding. They will be able to take their high school courses while also getting college credit.

Rose Jones, an associate dean of workforce development at Northwest Shoals, said this program will give students a head start in areas like health care and advance manufacturing, without having to go to a four-year college. It's also something that could bring more jobs to the Shoals.

The program will be offered to students this fall.
