ALABAMA (WALA) -

The Alabama Department of Corrections is investigating a fatal stabbing that happened June 9 at the Staton Correctional Facility in Elmore County.

Prison officials say they found 60-year-old Barry Tyrone Reynolds suffering from a stab wound at approximately 2:30 a.m. in one of the prison dorms.  Reynolds was taken to facility’s infirmary where life-saving measures were taken. Reynolds succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead by a physician at 2:55 a.m.

Inmate Michael Williams, 18, is a suspect in the stabbing and will be charged with Reynold’s death.

Reynolds was serving a five year sentence for a 2014 conviction for distributing a controlled substance in Mobile County.  Williams was sentenced to 25 years in 2017 for attempted murder in Mobile County.

Williams was one of two teens charged as an adult for attempted murder after Maria Williamson was shot in the face during an attempted carjacking at Dauphin and Monterey Streets in June 2015.

Williamson was at a stop light when a group of teens tried to carjack her, it's then officials say Williams shot her. Williamson survived but lost an eye.

Michael Williams was 15-years-old at the time of the crime. He pleaded guilty in the case.
