MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

BY: Elton Dean, Montgomery County Commission Chairman

By now, you’ve heard about the recent Advance ED report regarding Montgomery Public Schools.

MPS was rated in 31 areas and only met expectations in just one. We’ve all seen the report and know the school system needs improvement. Thanks to this report, we know the root of the cause, so NOW it’s time to get to work, join the team and stop complaining!

The Montgomery County Commission is being proactive and working toward sustainability. I’m encouraged with the new leadership for the schools- State Superintendent Dr. Eric Mackey, the newly state-appointed Chief Administrative Officer for MPS, Terry Roller, and MPS Superintendent, Dr. Ann Roy Moore. These leaders are eager to address the issues of the schools head-on and I’m asking each of you to do the same. Rather than sit back and criticize, join the efforts, be supportive, and be part of the solution.

I’m encouraged, motivated for the school system to move forward, and I hope you are too.
