MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - Saturday, the Alabama State University football team decided to volunteer with Common Ground Montgomery to "build a playground in a day," and Monday they were honored by Coca-Cola.

Coca-Cola is a sponsor of KaBOOM!, a nonprofit dedicated to building and improving playgrounds across the nation.

In a ceremony Monday, they honored and thanked the team for their help building the playground with the presentation of a $2,000 check for the football program.

Previous to the event, CGM was asking for 200 volunteers from the Montgomery community to help build the playground and caught ASU's head coach Donald Hill-Eley's attention.

Saturday, he and his team showed up and thrilled the CGM officials. With the team's help, they were able to finish the project two hours earlier than was planned and avoid the storms that rolled into Montgomery Saturday afternoon.
