MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - I think we can all agree we truly despise robocalls. There are 16 billion robocalls made a year or 1,300 per second. Lord help us. NBC reporter Jeff Rossen shares some tips on how you can prevent robocalls coming to your phone and you being pestered by them.
First, go to www.donotcall.gov. Signing up here will prevent all robocalls from legitimate businesses. Unfortunately, non-legitimate businesses or illegal businesses will still get through.
Second, if you get a call and don't recognize the number…. don't answer the call. If these people really want to talk to you, they will leave a message. If you choose to answer the call, say nothing and listen. If it is a robocall you will know immediately as you don't recognize the voice, or you will hear chatter in the background from the call center - just hang up.
Once you hang up from a robo caller go to caller history on your phone and block the contact of the robo caller that just called.
Lastly, Jeff suggests downloading any of these apps - Hiya, Nomorobo or robokiller. Any or all of these will help end the barrage of unwanted calls.
