MILLBROOK, AL (WSFA) - A man was apprehended in Montgomery Wednesday after he attempted to flee Millbrook police.
Millbrook Police Chief P.K. Johnson said one Prattville man attempted to create some fireworks of his own on Independence Day when he attempted to steal from the Millbrook Walmart and escape. Johnson said police attempted to stop the man as he drove off in his black Acura but he did not stop, driving westbound on Highway 14.
A pursuit followed and the man led police on a chase southbound on Interstate 65 into Montgomery. Johnson said the vehicle pursuit stopped at the intersection of Martha and Oak Street where the suspect then tried to escape on foot.
Police chased the suspect down, and arrested him. He was identified as 51-year-old Clyde W. Holt.
Holt was charged with fourth-degree theft of property and attempting to elude. Johnson said Holt will likely face additional charges though as his vehicle caused minor damage to a police unit, and an officer sustained a minor hand injury trying to take Holt into custody.
Johnson said potential offenders trying to commit crimes in Millbrook and flee local law enforcement to another city "has become a regular occurrence in our city." He said he intends to capture and prosecute anyone that tries this "to the fullest extent of the law."
Holt has been placed in the Elmore County Jail under a $1,500 bond.
