Montgomery restaurant in running for best AL fried chicken

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) -

A Montgomery restaurant is in the running to be named the best fried chicken in Alabama, but they need your help to make it happen.

Martin's restaurant off Narrow Lane Road is among eight finalists named in the Alabama Poultry Producers and "Simply Southern TV's" contest.

One winner will be selected through a bracket-style tournament by voting on Facebook.

Martin's says its recipe has been handed down for many years.

"It came from a lady who was here a long time ago with my father," said owner Maryanne Merritt. "It's just passed down over the years, not written down anywhere. You know, we just keep it to ourselves. But it is a special recipe. We fry chicken every day, every night."

Martin's is currently facing off against Zack's in Dothan and votes can be placed starting Thursday.

The overall winner will receive $300 and a plaque, along with the chance to be featured in “Simply Southern TV’s” fourth season.
