HUNTSVILLE, AL (WAFF) -

A former Huntsville school bus attendant has been arrested and charged with assault. A police report states he allegedly slapped a student and left him bloodied.

Police identified the attendant as 55-year-old Gilbert Nembhard. Officers arrested Nembhard at his Huntsville home on Thursday. He has since bonded out.

WAFF 48 News first reported about this when it happened in April. The 14-year-old says he was riding home from Huntsville Junior High when he yelled out of the window. While trying to reprimand him, the police report says Nembhard poked his finger into the boys chest and then at some point hit him. The 8th-grader's mom said the attendant left her son with a bloody nose on the ride home.

The attendant's employer, Durham School Services, fired him over this incident.

"Whatever route it is, you have blind faith that you gone' safely take my son to and from school with no issues," said the student's mom.

The 14-year-old started high school this week, but his mom said he's still wearing the emotional bandages from last year's events.

"He lost his temper like that with my son, then I don't trust him with anybody else's son or daughter," said the student's mom.

The police report states Durham School Services has video from the bus. However, the boy's mom told WAFF 48 News that when police went to request it, Durham told them it was out of order that day.
