Arrest made after child left in Montgomery day care van

MONTGOMERY, AL (WSFA) - An arrest has been made after a 5-year-old was left in a Montgomery daycare van for hours Monday, the Montgomery Police Department has confirmed.

Tametris Crosby, 39, turned herself in Thursday morning and was transported to the Montgomery City Jail.

Capt. Regina Duckett said an investigation determined that the case met the requirements for a charge of endangering the welfare of a child, a class A misdemeanor.

Duckett said the child's mother secured a warrant for Crosby's arrest. MPD says its policy will not allow for the release of a mugshot in a misdemeanor case.

The incident happened at By His Grace Preschool and Learning Center on the Atlanta Highway where the youngster remained in the van for two hours between 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.

First responders said the child was hot but still sweating and alert when he was pulled from the vehicle. Family members took the child to a nearby hospital to be treated for dehydration.

The owner of the daycare, Robert Johnson, told WSFA 12 News on Tuesday that it was the employee's first day on the job and said it's the first incident of its kind at his facility.

The center has a religious license exemption, which is different from a licensed childcare facility. According to DHR records, By His Grace Preschool and Daycare opened in early 2018 and has received four substantiated complaints this year.
