MONTGOMERY, Ala._ Governor Bob Riley has ordered flags flown above the state Capitol to fly at half staff in honor of civil rights heroine Rosa Parks.
The flags will fly at half staff until sunset on the day of her funeral. Riley, in a statement issued Tuesday.
Alabama joins the nation in mourning as we mark the passing of a remarkable life,” Governor Riley said. “Her brave act nearly 50 years ago in Montgomery changed our nation forever.”
Monday night on learning of her death, the Alabama Governor said, "Rosa Parks will always be remembered as a courageous woman who quietly confronted injustice, and in so doing, she changed a nation."
Parks died last night in Detroit. She was 92.
