COPY-Friends of Rosa Parks give praise at memorial service

ATLANTA Speakers at a memorial service for Rosa Parks last night in Atlanta said those in the younger generation needs to rise and become more influential in remembrance of the woman who didn't give up her seat.

The service at the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church began with everyone singing "Lift Every Voice and Sing." Each featured speaker dwelt on the qualities of Parks, a black woman who refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white man in Montgomery in 1955, helping to spark the modern civil right movement.Parks died at her Detroit home of natural causes at age 92 on Monday.Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin clearly remembered when Parks refused to get up. Franklin said that helped her become the person that she is today.At the end of the service, everyone held hands, rocked sideways and sang "We Shall Overcome."
