Archives to Catalogue Civil War Era

The Alabama Department of Archives and History is using computer technology to catalogue events from 150 years ago. It is putting together a database of thousands of Alabamians who fought in the Civil War.

Anyone can use the Internet to find out all the information available on individual Civil War soldiers. While the process will eventually simplify historical research, it won't come quickly. The database so far contains only the names of soldiers whose last names began with A or B and some with C. Archivists said it may take eight years to complete the project.
