H.M.O's Complaint Dismissed

The Department of Insurance and the Department of Public health dismissed a complaint by an H.M.O. called The Oath. In May, The Oath claimed Baptist Health System in Birmingham put the H.M.O. in danger by raising hospital rates by more than twenty percent two years in a row.

The owners of The Oath bought the H.M.O. from Baptist Helath System in June 2000. The first year's rate increases were a condition of the sale. The Oath severed ties with Baptist Health System this summer. Starting August first, members of The Oath won't be covered at Baptist hospitals. More than ten-thousand of The Oath's ninety thousand customers in Alabama are Baptist employees and their dependents, making Baptist Helath System one of their largest customers.
