COPY-Bargains hunters swarm Alabama shopping malls

UNDATED, Ala. It's shop 'til you drop day. Bargain hunters were up before dawn today and swarmed stores across Alabama in the annual post-Thanksgiving holiday shopping spree.

A few surveys have found that shoppers plan to be more cautious with their spending this year, compared to last year.

The day after Thanksgiving is known as "Black Friday" because traditionally it's seen as the day most retailers go into the "black" and start earning a profit for the year.

The days immediately preceding Christmas have become the busiest -- and most lucrative -- shopping days. That's because more holiday shoppers are waiting for steep discounts.
