PERMITS:  Permits for the Nov 10 youth, the Dec 7-8 gun deer hunts and the primitive weapons deer hunt on Dec 14-15 will be issued from the two checking stations during the dates of the hunts. Permits for campers on the gun deer hunts will be issued the day before each hunt beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Season permits for the gun deer hunts of Nov 24-30 , Dec 17-23, and Jan 1-7 and for small game, archery deer and turkey will be available from self-service boxes located at the two checking stations or may be obtained by writing Area biologist Randle Liles, 796 Chosea Springs Road, Anniston, AL 36207 (phone [256] 435-5422) or the Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Office, 4101 AL Hwy. 21 North, Jacksonville, AL 36265. Send your current state hunting license number along with a stamped, self-addressed envelope.

Season permits will also be issued at:

  • Coffey's Hunting Supplies, East Gadsden;
  • General Store, Cheaha State Park;
  • Bridgette's BP Station. Hwy. 9, White Plains;
  • Rabbittown General Store, Rabbittown;
  • Norton's Express Mart, Hwy. 21 S. Jacksonville;
  • Edwardsville Shopette. Hwy 78, Edwardsville;
  • Courthouse, Heflin;
  • Crossroads Quickmart, intersection Hwy 431 and Hwy 9, Hollis Cross Roads;
  • Wal-Mart Stores in Oxford, Anniston, and Jacksonville.

Permits will be issued from the Division of Wildlife and Freshwater Fisheries Office in Jacksonville between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday-Friday. All deer and turkey must be brought to the checking station before being transported from the area. Trapping permits must be obtained from the area biologist. The two hunter checking stations, one located at the old Warden Lodge and the other located at the junction of Joseph Springs Rd. (FS 522) and Hwy. 9 will be open from 5:00 a. m. until 5:00 p.m. on dates of the two-day gun deer hunts.

DEER

(Youth) Stalk Hunting Hunter’s Choice (except spotted fawns – one deer per day): Nov. 10.

(Gun) Stalk Hunting Antlered Bucks Only: Nov. 24-30; Dec. *7-8; Dec. 17-23; Jan. 1-7. *On Dec. 7-8 a predetermined percentage of the permits issued will be “Hunter's Choice” permits (except spotted fawns – one deer per day).

(Archery) Stalk Hunting Hunter's Choice (except spotted fawns): Oct. 15-Jan. 31 (hunter must obtain hunt permit on days of youth, gun, and primitive weapons deer hunts.) No hunting on day of Youth hunt.

(Primitive Weapons) Stalk Hunting Hunter’s Choice (except spotted fawns-one deer per day): Dec.14-15

TURKEY - Mar. 15-Apr. 30 (Daylight until 12:00 noon CST)

SQUIRREL - Oct. 1-Feb. 28 (except on days of youth, gun and primitive weapons deer hunts).

QUAIL - Nov. 17-Feb. 28 (except on days of gun and primitive weapons deer hunts).

RABBIT - Nov. 1-15 and Jan. 1-Feb. 28 (except on days of youth, gun, and primitive weapons deer hunts).

RACCOON, OPOSSUM, & FOX - Jan. 1-Feb. 28 (Nighttime hours only; Fox hunting - dogs only - no weapons) (except on nights of and preceding gun deer hunts).

DOVE - Sept. 15-Oct. 13 (Wednesdays and Saturdays only, 12:00 noon until sunset)

TRAPPING - Jan. 1-31.
