Mobile Woman Killed in Wilcox County Plane Crash

A Mobile woman best known for her work with the Boys and Girls' Club was killed in a plane crash Saturday afternoon near Camden, in Wilcox County. The pilot, whose name was withheld, was injured.

The Federal Aviation Administration says 60-year-old Beverly Burton died in the crash. The nature of the pilot's injuries is not immediately known.

Paul Turk, an FAA spokesman, said weather conditions were good and he said the pilot radioed at about 1:34 PM that he was changing his flight plan to do a visual landing.

It was the last communication from the pilot. Turk said the 1977 Piper Saratoga was returning to mobile from Natchez, Mississippi, where Burton had a speaking engagement.

The investigation was turned over to the national transportation safety board.
