COPY-State schedules events to help senior citizens pick drug plan

MONTGOMERY, Ala. Margie Turner thought she'd done just what she was supposed to do when she signed up for a specific plan under the new Medicare prescription drug program.

She found out differently when she went to a pharmacy to get her three prescriptions filled, which without insurance cost a total of about 400 dollars.

The 67-year-old Turner of Munford says the pharmacist said her medicines were not covered by the plan she joined.

She was in the audience at the Capitol today as Governor Riley and other state officials announced a series of events scheduled across the state. The events are designed to help senior citizens figure out the new Medicare drug program and to make sure they sign up for a plan that will cover the medicines they take.

Turner is among about 750,000 Alabama residents eligible for the new Medicare drug program.
