Man Survives Initial Car Wreck, but Dies when Hit by Car on I-85

MOBILE, Ala. -- Mobile police say a 25-year-old Prichard man involved in a car accident last (Sunday) night around 8:30 p.m. avoided injury only to be struck and killed by another vehicle after he got out of his car following the initial wreck.

Investigators say Oumwell Clark apparently made an improper lane change while traveling southbound on Interstate 65. His car collided with another vehicle, driven by 21-year-old Lakendrick Caffey of Theodore. Caffery was able to pull to the shoulder of the road, but Clark's car remained in the roadway. Police say neither man was seriously hurt as a result of the first accident.

Following the collision, however, Clark got out of his vehicle and was struck by a car driven by 49-year-old Albert Delgaccio of Broadway, North Carolina. Police said moments later, a second vehicle driven by 17-year-old Markeesha Overstreet of Grand Bay was unable to avoid the wreck and struck Clark's vehicle. As a result of the second accident, Clark was fatally injured and died at the scene.

Police said Delgaccio was treated for an undisclosed injury at a local hospital while Overstreet and her 14-year-old passenger sustained minor injuries.
