COPY-Minor league umpires reject tentative agreement

NEW YORK Striking minor league umpires rejected a tentative strike settlement today.

Umpires, who have been on strike since the start of the minor league season on April sixth, reached a tentative agreement last Thursday following two days of bargaining.Management lawyer George Yund said they voted against the deal by a two-to-one margin. He said minor league baseball will continue to use replacement umps and no further contract talks are planned.Umpires have been seeking higher pay and per diem payments.Alabama is home to four minor league baseball teams -- Mobile, Montgomery, Birmingham and Huntsville.
