COPY-Bessemer prosecutor charged in money sting

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. An assistant district attorney in the Bessemer division is accused of soliciting and accepting money to get a drug case thrown out of court.

Investigators with the state Attorney General's Office arrested Brion Russell yesterday afternoon at a convenience store in Tuscaloosa. He was taken to the Tuscaloosa County Jail with bail set at 20-thousand dollarsRussell, who handles drug cases, was charged with violating the state's ethics law -- a felony. He is on administrative leave without pay.Attorney General Troy King declined to say how the investigation started or the amount of money involved.___Information from the Birmingham News
