Third Duke Lacrosse Player Indicted on Rape Alligations

The captain of Duke University's lacrosse team has been indicted in connection with the rape allegations made after a team party.

A grand jury meeting today in North Carolina indicted 23-year-old David Evans on charges of first-degree rape, sexual offense and kidnapping.

Two other players were indicted on similar charges last month.

Defense attorneys insist all of the players are innocent of charges brought by a woman who was hired to strip for the off-campus party. The 27-year-old black student from nearby North Carolina Central told police she was raped and beaten by three white men.

The defense lawyers have said two rounds of testing failed to turn up any D-N-A links to any of the white players.
